Disparities in health equity are a major factor in shaping health outcomes in Canada, particularly for those experiencing homelessness or precarious housing. When it comes to palliative care, using an approach that considers the whole person is crucial for everyone with serious life-limiting illnesses. Sadly, equitable access to palliative care remains a challenge for people who experience homelessness.Explore how communities across the country are promoting equity in palliative care for precariously housed people: https://lnkd.in/gKMmqFpw#HealthEquity#PalliativeCare

Early cancer detection through timely screenings significantly increases survival rates and can lead to less invasive treatments. However, about 50% of lung and colorectal cancers in Canada are diagnosed at advanced stages, leading to poorer outcomes, increasing treatment costs, and requiring more healthcare resources. Not all people in Canada benefit equally from cancer screening services due to factors such as the legacy of colonialism, lack of culturally safe services and resources, discomfort with invasive screening procedures, and geographical barriers, leading to a distrust in healthcare and reluctance to undergo screening; for example, this is something that occurs for some among some people in First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.Programs focused on speeding up cancer diagnosis for people with symptoms are critical to improving patient outcomes and reducing the chance of mortality.Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e7uwev6g

“One of the key goals of the World Indigenous Cancer Conference is to bring people together in the Indigenous cancer space and talk about common challenges, common highlights, common successes and even uncommon knowledge that we can learn from. It was an extension of the convening work that we do at the Partnership on a larger, international scale.”- Talia Pfefferle (Director of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Cancer Strategy)For June’s National Indigenous History Month, learn about the highlights and insights from participating in the third World Indigenous Cancer Conference, held in Australia earlier this year.https://lnkd.in/ek4BNcXd
