Big news in the world of college basketball! Nate James, a familiar face from the sidelines, is back in action, joining the Howard University men’s basketball staff as the associate head coach. This move promises to bring a wealth of experience and championship pedigree to the Bison.
James's coaching journey is impressive. He spent a remarkable 14 seasons as an assistant under the legendary Mike Krzyzewski at Duke University. During his time with the Blue Devils, he played a crucial role in shaping the team, contributing to two national championship victories. But that's not all – James also tasted victory as a player, securing a national championship ring himself! He played a key role in developing numerous NBA players.
In 2021, James took on the head coaching role at Austin Peay. Over two seasons, he led the team, compiling a record of 21-39. Now, he's teaming up with Howard head coach Kenny Blakeney, another Duke alum, creating a strong connection within the coaching staff.
James steps into the role previously held by Steve Ongley, who recently departed to join the NBA G League's Wisconsin Herd as an assistant coach.
