Roll Verification and Attending
Georgia State University is required to verify student attendance each semester due to federal financial aid laws. GSU defines attendance in an online class as submitting an assignment or actively participating in an online discussion regarding academics. Simply logging into an online class is not an academic activity.
To be counted as attending class during the roll verification period, you must complete the
- Syllabus Quiz or other designated activity by XXXX at 11:59 p.m.
If you do not complete this activity by the deadline, you will be reported as never attended and administratively withdrawn for non-attendance from the course. (Please understand that you may still owe tuition money for the course.)
Participation and Attendance Expectations
Your attendance and participation in this class are vital to your learning and success. Successful students
- schedule at least three hours a week to have class

In this course, plagiarism/cheating will result in (here identify the consequences, e.g., failure of the course, failure of the assignment, redoing the assignment, etc.). In this course, plagiarism will also result in the initiation of the Student Code of Conduct Disciplinary Process. Below are some examples of cheating.
- Using a cell phone or any mobile device during an exam or having other windows open during an electronic exam
- Submitting the work of another person as your own. If you quote, summarize, paraphrase, or use the ideas of another, you must accurately attribute that information. If you do not acknowledge the source, you are plagiarizing.

- An Example Statement that Prohibits AI Usage in the Course:
You are not allowed to use generative AI tools like ChatGPT for any work in this course, including both graded and ungraded work. Prohibited AI usage includes idea or text generation, writing or revising your work, development of media assets, or data analysis and presentation. - Example Statements that Allow for Limited AI Usage in the Course:
- In Specific Assignments:
You may use a generative AI tool like ChatGPT only when it is specifically permitted as part of an assignment. - For Early Idea or Draft Development:
You are free to use generative AI to help you develop ideas or a first draft of your paper. You will be required to turn in the prompt(s) you used, the AI’s response(s), and all subsequent drafts so I can see your work. - Only with AI Attribution or Citation:
You are allowed to use generative AI tools to help with assignments for this course but only with attribution. It is the policy and practice of Georgia State to create inclusive learning environments and provide students with disabilities reasonable accommodations so they have equal access to participate in educational programs, activities, and services. Students who wish to request accommodation for a disability may do so by registering with the Access and Accommodation Center. Students may only be accommodated upon issuance by theAccess and Accommodation Centerof a signedAccommodation Plan and are responsible for providing a copy of that plan to instructors of all classes in which accommodations are sought. The Access and Accommodations Center for Online Students can be contacted at 678-891-3385. See Documentation Guidelines for more information.
Withdrawal Policy
The midpoint of the semester is the last day to withdraw with a W. (See the course calendar for the midpoint date.) Please talk to your instructor and your advisor before withdrawing from this course.
Students are permitted to withdraw with a grade of W a maximum of three (3) times in the associate degree program at Perimeter College. Students who withdraw from a class after the limit has been reached will automatically receive a grade of WF in their classes. Several things to remember about withdrawals are stated below.
- Although a W does not affect your institutional grade point average, a W negatively impacts your HOPE grade point average and financial aid eligibility. For additional information on this, consult the Financial Aid Office.
- Withdrawals count against your completion rate for making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) required to keep financial aid.
- Withdrawals are initiated through PAWS.
Incomplete Policy
The grade of “I” Incomplete may be given to a student who for nonacademic reasons beyond his or her control is unable to meet the full requirements of the course. To receive an “I,” a student must
- have completed most of the course’s major assignments (generally all but one) AND
- be earning a passing grade in the course (aside from assignments not completed) in the instructor’s judgment.
When a student has a nonacademic reason for not completing one or more of the assignments for a course (including examinations) and wishes to receive an “I” for the course, it is the student’s responsibility to inform the instructor in person or in writing of the reason. The grade of “I” is awarded at the discretion of the instructor and is not the prerogative of the student. Conditions to be met for removing an “I” are established by the instructor. A schedule for the completion of assignments must be approved before the assignment of the incomplete.
