Shirleen Allicotwas born in Guyana but he was raised in the United States. Her parents moved to America when she was just 3 months old. She grew up with American cultural traditions and values even though she was born in another country. She grew up in Ozone Park, Queens, New York. Her mother and father both worked for the NYC Transit Authority. After high school, she enrolled into Hofstra University. She started her on air career in the Bronx, where she worked several years for News 12, which was Cablevision’s local cable news network. The station covered three states, including Connecticut, New Jersey and New York State. Having wide coverage of three major eastern states was good early experience for Shirleen because it allowed her to reach many people early in her career. After her short career in the Bronx, she moved to other locations of the same television station. She first moved to Long Island and then went on to work in Connecticut.
After her stint in Connecticut, she left for another position on 6 ABC Action News for WPVI in 2010. She co anchored the 4 PM time slot as well as the Action News at 10. Action News focused mostly on local news in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas. She got her breakthrough moment when she started her work as an anchor for Eyewitness News at Noon, after a period where she worked at the Philadelphia based WPVI. She started to earn a reputation as a talented journalist, which allowed her to flourish and start to gain recognition all over the East coast.
She covered major national events like Hurricane Sandy, the Boston Marathon Bombings, and Amtrak derailment case. She interviewed the president’s wife Michelle Obama and reported live from Chicago City for Oprah's final farewell. She also broke news on the murder case against Pedro Hernandez.
During the 2016 United States Presidential elections.Shirleen Allicotbeing a co-anchor for Eyewitness News at Noon extensively covered the run-up to the elections. She provided accounts of both the primaries and the final elections too. Hillary Clinton was featured prominently during these reports. Allicot had much interest in the Presidential candidate. Covering the Royal Wedding
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were set to get married in the early part of 2018, ABC News assigned Shirleen to cover the story. Shirleen began her coverage by saying, “Royal wedding organizers rehearsed the proceedings set to take place in Windsor but without the bride and groom. Planners will use Thursday's practice session to finalize some of the details of Saturday's gala wedding at St. George's Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle. The festivities will include a 25-minute carriage ride outside the castle grounds by the newlyweds Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after the ceremony is concluded.”
The wedding was not without its complications. For a perfect wedding, there eventually had to be problems that rose to break down the immaculate scene. Shirleen broke news about someone getting ill before the wedding took place, “Kensington Palace says Prince Charles will walk Meghan Markle down the aisle at the royal wedding. The father of groom Prince Harry stepped in after Markle's dad fell ill days before the wedding and was unable to fly to Britain.” Even though Meghan would have loved to have her father walk her down the aisle, she was still appreciate that Harry’s dad stepped forward to make things right.
Meghan was more concerned about her father’s health than she was about him making an appearance at the rating. He already had given his blessings and was so happy that his daughter would be marrying into royalty. She begged the public to give her father some space so that he could focus on getting better. She didn’t want the media or public to harass him with questions about he wedding. He went through a heart operation and needed all the rest he could get. She just wanted him to be fully healthy so that she could spend time with him after the wedding. It was a tough thing to worry about on her wedding day but she was able to make it through.
The world expected to see a lavish ceremony that would bring lots of attention to England. Shirleen reported about how the wedding would impact the country’s economy, “A large military contingent will also take part, reflecting Harry's years of military service. Meantime, Thomas Markle had been selected to walk Ms. Markle down the aisle, but is reportedly ill with heart problems. Markle's mother Doria Ragland may take Thomas Markle's place. Just what could actually happen on the happy couple's wedding day is spurring many to make wagers. Several industries in Britain are seeing a boom thanks to the Royal Wedding. Aside from tourism, one expert says the country will also make a lot of money from memorabilia.”
