There aren’t too many rules, except the following:
• Don’t wear white.
This one’s obvious, but bears repeating: don’t upstage the bride by choosing spring dresses in light shades of champagne or light gold, ivory, or white.
• Don’t wear red.
Bright, bold red is a big no-no. It takes away the spotlight on the bride, especially in photos, so it is highly discouraged.
• Don’t wear something too revealing.
Err on the side of caution and don’t wear something too short, skimpy, or otherwise flimsy. It’s not your day to be the center of attention, it’s the bride’s!
• Abide by the dress code.
Many guests wonder what to wear to a spring wedding. One hint is to look for the dress code, typically listed on the invitation enclosure (or on the couple’s wedding website). If there is no dress code listed, plan on dressing semi-formal or consider the venue location and time of day for your outfit selection. A fancier venue means a fancier dress; a more laid-back BBQ style wedding in a backyard means a casual wedding guest dress instead of a co*cktail style.
