The majority of cats with this pattern are females. Female cats have two X chromosomes, while male cats have only one. This genetic structure leads to the Calico pattern being more common in female cats.

Male Calico cats are extremely rare worldwide. A study conducted by the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine shows that out of 3,000 Calico cats, only 1 is male, and it is known that almost all of these male cats are sterile.

Unfortunately, male Calico cats are usually less healthy than their female counterparts due to a genetic anomaly that occurs during birth. While it is possible for male Calico cats to lead a long and healthy life, these special cats require privileged care.
