In this version of Spider Solitaire, you will use all four suits to complete eight sequences--these are cards ordered from King to Ace in the same suit. When you complete a sequence, the cards in it are removed from play, freeing up space for other sequences.

To create a sequence in 4 suits Spider Solitaire, you need to move cards from one column to another. You’re trying to reveal the unflipped cards underneath by removing all cards in front of them. As you can see, we were able to move the 8 and the 7 of Spades on top of the 9 of Spades.

We wouldn’t be able to create a sequence with other suits. If you put a card from a different suit into the sequence, the rest will be grayed out until you move that card away.

When you run out of available moves, you may click on the draw deck at the bottom right. Doing so will place a single card at the bottom of each column. While this adds more cards to the playing area, it also will cut off any sequences you’re building, so be wary of that!

4-Suit Spider Solitaire Strategy

The objective of Spider Solitaire four suits is to complete eight sequences, including 2 of each suit. There are many possible ways to get there, so let’s discuss some strategies to make success more likely.

Like all versions of Spider Solitaire, this is a game about organization and prioritization. However, the use of all four suits makes organizing cards extremely difficult, and priorities are dubious with so much at play. For both of those reasons, make sure you’re taking a good long look at the tableau after the deal to start with a good battle plan. Good decisions in the beginning will help secure victory later.

It’s a good idea to reveal any unflipped cards on the tableau first, as this will become more difficult the more cards are in play. Once you’ve flipped all cards in a column, there might be an empty column. In Spider Solitaire, you can move any card into an empty column, but it’s best to move your greatest sequences (ideally those with a King up top) into these spaces.

Be careful not to block sequences with the wrong suit in front. It can be tempting to free up space in another column, and this can be a good strategy in some cases, but you’ll cut off the sequences you’ve already been building. Getting sequences out of the way should always be your first priority. In the same vein, only draw from the stock when absolutely necessary, as this will cut off most (if not all) columns.

Learning these strategies will help you improve your game, but only practice can make perfect!

4-Suit Spider Solitaire FAQs

How many decks are in 4-Suit Spider Solitaire?

Unlike regular Solitaire, which uses only one 52-card deck, this game uses two standard decks. Using these 104 cards, you must create eight sequences of thirteen cards. One of the reasons why Spider Solitaire is so commonly played online is because not everyone has two decks and it’s a hassle to organize them after play.

Is 4-Suit Spider Solitaire possible?

Yes! While it is extremely difficult, it’s definitely possible to win this version of the game. You’ll probably suffer many losses before your first victory, but that’s how you learn the mechanics of the game and the best strategies. Sometimes, however, it isn’t possible to win a game of Solitaire based on the draw or initial moves made. When this happens, don’t be discouraged—just try again!

Where did Spider Solitaire come from?

Solitaire has a long history dating all the way back to the 18th century. Spider Solitaire, on the other hand, didn’t emerge until 1949, named such because of the eight stacks of cards and eight sequences necessary to complete. It rose to global popularity.

Can you mix suits in Spider Solitaire?

Well, yes and no. You can place a card from a different suit into the order of a sequence, but this will cut off that sequence until the card is removed from that spot. As discussed in our strategy section above, it’s best to avoid mixing suits because of how much it restricts play.

Is Spider Solitaire good for your brain?

All Solitaire games are good for your brain! Each requires patience, memory, organization, and prioritization. The more you practice these skills, the healthier and sharper your brain remains. Studies have shown that card games are a fantastic way to maintain cognitive abilities as you age.
